Jagan’s Arrest Remark Backfires Amid TDP Criticism

One of the defining moments that reshaped Andhra Pradesh politics was the arrest of TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu in 2023. The event triggered widespread outrage, ultimately contributing to the downfall of the YSR Congress government in the 2024 elections and paving the way for the formation of the NDA government.

In a rather ironic twist, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy made a controversial remark during an interaction with the YCP legal cell today, one that many say contradicts his past actions.

Referring to the recent legal troubles faced by YCP leaders, including MP Midhun Reddy, Jagan stated,

“Arresting a person means attacking their dignity and tarnishing their goodwill. This is beyond pathetic. The current government is fabricating evidence and targeting our leaders with fake cases.”

While the statement appears to advocate for human dignity and due process, critics — particularly TDP supporters — are calling it deeply hypocritical.

They argue that the same Jagan did not hesitate to arrest former CM Chandrababu Naidu, a three-time Chief Minister and one of India’s most respected political figures, in what was widely seen as a politically motivated case — the so-called “Skill Development Scam.” At the time, Jagan showed no concern for Babu’s stature or dignity, they say.

“Now that his own party leaders are facing legal heat, Jagan suddenly remembers the importance of dignity and justice,” remarked one angry TDP supporter on social media. “Where were these lofty ideals when Chandrababu garu was wrongly jailed?”

This growing sentiment among the public, especially TDP sympathizers, underscores the perception that Jagan’s remarks are more about political convenience than principle — a narrative that could continue to haunt him in the months ahead.
