A viral video of former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s car allegedly running over an elderly man named Singayya — who later passed away — has taken social media by storm. The video has sparked widespread debate, with many holding Jagan and his team responsible for the tragic incident.
While the authenticity of the footage is yet to be verified, the YSR Congress Party (YCP) responded after some delay. Although they did not explicitly deny the incident, they sought to address the controversy in their own terms.
In an official statement, the party said, “The YSR Congress Party strongly condemns the ongoing political conspiracy by the ruling coalition in Andhra Pradesh. They continue to resort to diversionary tactics, sensationalism, and smear campaigns instead of focusing on governance and public welfare.”
Referring to the incident, they added, “The unfortunate accidental death of Shri Cheeli Singayya during YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s recent Palnadu tour is being exploited for political mileage. Rather than handling the issue with sensitivity, the ruling coalition is spreading false narratives and selectively circulating misleading information days after the event.”
The YCP further noted that the convoy was surrounded by a large crowd, and that YS Jagan was unaware of any such mishap at the time. However, the party stopped short of denying that Singayya had been hit by the convoy, framing the controversy as a smear campaign.
Ultimately, the real issue — whether Singayya lost his life under Jagan’s car — could have serious legal implications. It remains to be seen how this controversy will unfold as political tensions continue to rise.
