Jagan’s Youth Meet Sparks Buzz Over Sharmila’s Absence

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy recently held a rare and significant interaction with the party’s youth wing at his residence in Tadepalli. This marked his first direct meeting with youth leaders and workers from across Andhra Pradesh in nearly seven years. The gathering served as both a motivational session and a reflection on the party’s journey.

Addressing the attendees, Jagan spoke emotionally about his decision to break away from the Congress, citing the injustice faced by the YSR family after the passing of his father, the late Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. “My mother and I built this party from scratch,” he said, recalling the difficult early days. “Some people joined us along the way, others supported us from the outside. Together, we created a powerful political force.”

He highlighted the close defeat in the 2014 elections and the eventual victory in 2019, encouraging the youth to play an active role in the party’s revival. Jagan urged the cadre to use social media effectively to spread the party’s message and emphasized that those who work with sincerity now will be recognized once the party returns to power.

However, the meeting sparked mixed reactions. While Jagan fondly credited his mother Vijayamma, many noticed his complete silence on his sister Y.S. Sharmila’s contributions, which left several attendees puzzled. Sharmila had famously walked over 3,000 kilometers during the early days of the YSRCP to rally public support—a massive grassroots effort that played a crucial role in building the party’s image.

Given their current political and property disputes, observers weren’t entirely surprised by the omission—but many in the party felt it was unfair. “Even a single line like, ‘My mother, Sharmila, and I worked hard to build this party,’ would have been enough to acknowledge her role,” one youth leader reportedly said.

The emotional tone of the meeting was overshadowed for some by what they saw as a deliberate snub, raising questions about unity and the message it sends to the party’s base, especially in the face of future electoral challenges.
