Had the Karnataka High Court upheld the conviction of Jayalalitha by a lower court, it would have made a significant impact on the politics of Tamil Nadu.
Apart from creating a huge void, it would have signaled the end of Jaya’s political future. And the person best placed to have exploited that void would have been Rajnikanth.
Of late there has been much speculation that Rajni was asked to spearhead the BJP in Tamil Nadu and the super star has been non-committal so far. But with Jaya’s acquittal, there is no denying that it is a rebirth of sorts for her and she will come back stronger.
Rajnikanth reportedly called her and congratulated her on her acquittal. Political analysts opine that it is also a subtle acknowledgement of the fact that his time will never come now.
