Hollywood actor and WWE superstar John Cena has expressed heartfelt gratitude to his Indian fanbase for their unwavering support over the years. Speaking at the London premiere of his latest film, Heads of State, Cena said he was overwhelmed by the love and enthusiasm shown by fans during his brief visit to India.

“The enthusiasm, the hospitality, and the welcome I’ve received from India—despite only being there for a limited time—has been truly humbling,” Cena said. “I just want to say thank you. The audience in India has invested in me, and I’ve done my best to pay that forward. I wouldn’t be where I am today without that support.”

Heads of State, which began streaming on Prime Video this Wednesday, is directed by Ilya Naishuller (Nobody) and reunites Cena with Idris Elba, his co-star from The Suicide Squad. The film also features Priyanka Chopra Jonas in a pivotal role, adding a strong Indian connection to the international project.

In the movie, Cena plays Will Derringer, a former action movie star turned U.S. President, while Elba portrays Sam Clarke, the British Prime Minister. The two find themselves under attack from a formidable global adversary and must rely on each other—and MI6 agent Noel Bisset, played by Priyanka—to stop a massive international conspiracy.

Cena, known for blending physical strength with impeccable comedic timing, once again explores his niche in action-comedy. Reflecting on his style, he cited Jim Carrey as a major influence, calling him “underrated” in the realm of physical comedy. “I watched him growing up. His delivery, his timing—he can make you laugh, cry, or even feel angry. That’s the sign of a great performer,” Cena said, also praising Jackie Chan as a legend in physical acting.

Discussing his on-screen chemistry with Elba, Cena credited the writers—Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, and Harrison Query—for crafting a dynamic relationship between their characters. “I don’t usually commit to a project unless I’ve read the script. The only exception is James Gunn—if he says we’re doing it, I’m in,” Cena noted.

For Cena, a compelling story is built on flawed but relatable characters. “If a character is too perfect, you don’t root for them. Real people are flawed, and good stories lean into that.”

Heads of State also stars Paddy Considine, Stephen Root, Carla Gugino, Jack Quaid, and Sarah Niles. The film is produced by Peter Safran and John Rickard, with Cena and Elba also serving as executive producers.

With high-octane action, sharp humor, and a global cast, Heads of State promises to be an entertaining ride—and another bold step in Cena’s evolving Hollywood journey.
