Kamal Haasan is often hailed as a “dictionary of acting” by many in the film industry—and for good reason. Among those who admire him is Natural Star Nani, who recently shared how deeply influenced he was by Kamal’s performance in the cult classic Virumandi.
During the promotions of HIT 3, Nani recalled a specific scene from Virumandi where Kamal wakes up from sleep. “That performance was so organic, I watched it several times to check if it felt artificial—but it never did. It inspired me so much that I tried something similar in my own film,” said Nani. He further added, “Cinema has given us a lot. And if we have ever given anything back to cinema, it is Kamal Haasan sir. He is a gift to cinema.”
Nani’s heartfelt words went viral on social media, and to the delight of fans, they eventually reached Kamal Haasan himself.
In a recent interview during the promotions of his upcoming film Thug Life, Kamal was asked about Nani’s comments. Even before the host could finish the question, Kamal interrupted with a knowing smile and said, “Yes, Nani spoke about it recently.”
He went on to say, “Just like I don’t need to say ‘Thanks, Nani’ out loud—because I know he understands—in cinema too, I don’t need to explain everything. The audience can feel it through my performance.”
Kamal’s acknowledgment of Nani’s admiration is a moment of pride for the young star and a reminder of the impact Kamal Haasan continues to have across generations of actors.
