The dispute originated from a comment made by Kamal Haasan at a public event, where he stated that the Kannada language had evolved from Tamil. This remark triggered strong opposition from various Kannada groups and the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), who demanded a formal public apology.
Kamal Haasan, standing firm on his statement, clarified that his comment was not intended to cause offense and expressed reluctance to apologize, stating, “If I have spoken wrongly, I will apologize.
