The death toll in the tragic stampede during Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President Thalapathy Vijay’s rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, has reached 39, with 60 others receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained during the incident.
Deeply anguished, Vijay had to cancel his roadshow abruptly and expressed his grief on social media platform X. On Sunday, he announced compensation of Rs 20 lakh each for the families of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh for the injured.
In his message, Vijay stated, “I am at a loss for words to express the pain my heart endures. My eyes and mind are clouded with sorrow. The loss of our loved ones is unbearable. Yet, as a member of your family, I intend to provide Rs 20 lakh to each family that has lost a loved one and Rs 2 lakh to those who are injured and receiving treatment.”
He further added that while the amount cannot compensate for such a loss, TVK will continue to provide necessary support to those affected.
