In a rare and noteworthy gesture, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) displayed warm bonhomie towards women ministers from the Revanth Reddy-led government, who personally visited him to extend an invitation for the Medaram Sammakka–Saralamma Jatara.
On Thursday, Telangana ministers Konda Surekha and Danasari Seethakka visited KCR’s farmhouse at Erravelli to formally invite him to attend the upcoming world-famous tribal festival. Speaking on the occasion, Seethakka, who holds the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development portfolio, said the visit was made in the spirit of tradition and mutual respect, and not political considerations.
She explained that although she could not meet KCR during the Assembly session, she chose to make a special visit to personally invite him and his wife Shobhamma to the Medaram Jatara. Highlighting the significance of the festival, Seethakka said Medaram Jatara is the world’s largest tribal congregation, where Sammakka and Saralamma are revered as mother goddesses who bless devotees irrespective of caste, creed, or region.
The ministers presented KCR with traditional offerings such as turmeric, kumkum, sarees, betel leaves, and Medaram prasadam. In a gesture reflecting Telangana’s rich customs, KCR and his wife warmly welcomed the delegation, honoured the ministers with sarees, turmeric, and kumkum, and hosted them to tea. The interaction was described as cordial and informal, marked by friendly conversation.
KCR reportedly assured the visiting ministers that he would attend the Medaram Jatara. Mulugu DCC president Paidaka Ashok and Siddipet DCC president Akanksha Reddy were also present during the meeting, which has drawn attention for its rare display of cross-party courtesy.
