KCR Returns to Hyderabad Ahead of Winter Assembly, Set for Showdown with Revanth

BRS chief and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) appears to be emerging from a two-year political hibernation following the humiliating defeat of his party in the 2023 elections, when the Congress secured power with a narrow majority.

According to reports, KCR has returned to his Hyderabad Banjara Hills residence from his Yerravalli farmhouse on Sunday evening, ahead of the much-anticipated winter Assembly sessions starting Monday. This marks the first time in two years that KCR has permanently moved back to his city residence.

It is widely expected that KCR will attend the Assembly as the Leader of Opposition, participating in high-decibel debates on crucial state issues, including Krishna and Godavari river waters, irrigation projects, and other developmental matters. This will set the stage for a major political showdown between KCR and his arch-rival Revanth Reddy, the first since the change of government.

Having largely stayed away at his farmhouse over the past months, KCR recently signaled a resumption of political activity when he convened a joint meeting of the BRS Legislature Party and State Executive Committee at Telangana Bhavan last Sunday afternoon. This has fueled speculation about his active participation in the upcoming Assembly sessions.

Revanth Reddy, meanwhile, has openly challenged KCR to appear in the Assembly and engage in discussions on state matters. With KCR returning to active politics, Telangana’s political environment is expected to intensify, with the BRS likely targeting Revanth Reddy’s government over its two-year performance, potentially resulting in heated debates from both sides in the House.
