Smita Sabharwal, the most popular female IAS officer and the Additional Secretary to the Telangana CM KCR, has been sanctioned Rs. 15 lakhs towards her legal expenses in her battle against a leading national media house. The T government has passed a GO towards bearing Smita Sabharwal’s expenses in filing a civil suit against the magazine.
The government order further stated that Smita Sabharwal, who decided to file a law suit against the management of the magazine, has to deposit 9.75 lakh towards court fee and additional legal expenses will tally upto 5 more lakhs in the defamation suit that is worth Rs 10 crore.
It is well known that the said national news magazine published a derogatory caricature of the female IAS officer in its July 6th edition. In its article, the magazine, even though did not mention Smita Sabharwal’ name, addressed her as an eye candy who appears in fashionable saris in all the meetings of CM KCR.
The magazine even tendered a public apology for hurting the IAS officer’s feelings. Not happy with the magazine’s response, Smita decided to pursue the case legally.
