Acceding to the demands of each and every agitating group just to score brownie points over its neighboring state will not help KCR usher in ‘Bangaru Telangana’ if that indeed really is his objective.
KCR says that Telangana is the only revenue surplus state in the country apart from Gujarat and he has the freedom to utilize this surplus budget.
The success of Telangana as a new State will depend on efficient administration and not effective politics. KCR seems to be a better politician than an administrator by all accounts.
Today, if he doubles the salaries of all government employees, there is no going back. And should Hyderabad which is the backbone of his State’s financial health be affected by an economic downturn, the picture might not be that rosy.
A politician looks at votes, an administrator looks at public welfare. KCR did not even blink before announcing a 44% hike, but to date he is unmoved by the scores of farmers committing suicides in his own constituency. These deaths will prove to be his downfall.
