BRS president and former Telangana chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) once again skipped the ongoing winter session of the assembly, which began on Saturday.
KCR has attended the House only for procedural requirements — once to take oath and later to formally retain his MLA position. Beyond such technicalities, the former CM has largely kept away from public life, signaling a calculated retreat from active politics.
While it is evident that KCR prefers not to face current Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy across the treasury benches, this time his absence is also linked to a more contentious issue — the upcoming discussion on the Justice P. C. Ghose Commission report on the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.
Once showcased as KCR’s flagship achievement, the project has now come under sharp criticism. Experts and committees have termed it a monumental failure, pointing to planning errors, design flaws, and execution lapses. The collapse of three barrages has further deepened the crisis, turning the ambitious project into both a political setback and financial burden.
The state government is expected to table the Ghose Committee report during this session, with findings that reportedly highlight systemic blunders in the project’s conception and execution.
