Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has been attracting people of the State fully cashing in on their Telangana sentiment.
This has been his success mantra in all the elections and people have fallen into his trap because he promises moon to them in every election.
Interestingly, even a large section of Telangana journalists have also fallen into his trap.
Since the journalists played a very crucial role in the Telangana movement, they are hopeful that only KCR can do justice to them in resolving all their pending issues, particularly housing.
Hundreds of journalists who have been waiting for a roof over their heads were overwhelmed by KCR’s promise that he would construct three-bedroom houses for them in all the district headquarters.
In Hyderabad, KCR had a meeting with representatives of journalists’ housing societies the other day and assured them that the government would construct ultra-modern residential flats for nearly 2,500 journalists at a cost of Rs 100 crore and they don’t have to pay a single rupee from their pocket.
He even declared that he would make an allocation to that effect in 2016-17 budget and see that the houses would be ready by next year.
He even identified 100 acres of land at Budwel in Rajendranagar on the outskirts for the journalists’ housing and said he would soon lay foundation stone to that effect.
In return, KCR asked the societies to surrender their existing 80 acres of land at Gopanpally and Pet Basheerabad, the value of which is very high at the present market rates.
The journalists hailed KCR and even performed “palabhishekam” (anointment with milk) of his portrait. However, to their utter disappointment, there is no mention of this housing project in the budget nor is there any allocation of Rs 100 crore.
Now, journalists have realised that they have been taken for a ride. Yet, they have no option but to remain silent. May be they will make representations to the government and wait for KCR’s mercy!
