Kim Jong-un Calls for “Invincible” North Korean Military

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un called for the country’s armed forces to grow into an “invincible” force during a military parade celebrating the 80th anniversary of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea. In his speech, Kim emphasized strengthening the nation’s defense capabilities but did not directly threaten South Korea or the United States.

Kim stressed that national sovereignty can only be defended through strength. He urged the military to evolve into elite armed forces capable of overwhelming any threat through political, ideological, military, and technological superiority, while maintaining discipline and morale.

The remarks come amid North Korea’s ongoing weapons development under a five-year defense plan. At the parade, the country unveiled the new Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missile for the first time. Kim praised the military’s role in supporting Russia in the Ukraine conflict, calling their performance a demonstration of the army’s ideological and spiritual excellence.

Foreign dignitaries, including Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, attended the celebrations. Kim also vowed to continue opposing “injustice and hegemony,” a subtle reference to the U.S., but made no direct confrontational remarks toward Washington or Seoul.

Earlier, Kim had expressed positive sentiments about former U.S. President Donald Trump and indicated North Korea remains open to dialogue with the U.S. if demands for denuclearization are eased.
