Telangana Endowments Minister Konda Surekha has once again found herself at the centre of controversy, continuing a pattern of friction with local Congress leaders in Warangal district. Despite her earlier apology to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and assurances to stay clear of disputes, recent developments suggest little has changed.
The latest flashpoint came during a floral tribute ceremony marking the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on Friday at Kashibugga, Warangal. During the event, DCC President Errabelli Swarna and other local Congress leaders placed a garland on Indira Gandhi’s statue. Moments later, supporters of Konda Surekha reportedly removed that garland and replaced it with one brought by the minister herself.
A video of the incident quickly went viral on social media, triggering sharp criticism from within the Congress ranks. Several party leaders expressed dismay, stating that Surekha’s actions once again highlight her disregard for party unity and a tendency to court unnecessary confrontation.
“Instead of leading collectively, she continues to provoke discord even over minor issues,” remarked a senior Congress leader from Warangal. Others have already lodged complaints with the party high command, urging it to step in and address the growing internal rifts.
Many within the district unit believe that the high command’s silence has only emboldened Surekha further. “She behaves as if normal rules don’t apply to her. Without corrective action, the Warangal Congress unit will continue to suffer,” another party functionary commented.
Surekha’s critics also note that, despite publicly claiming to have “no quarrels with anyone,” she repeatedly ends up in disputes with her own colleagues. The garland episode, they argue, has not only embarrassed DCC chief Swarna but also cast the party leadership in a poor light — deepening tensions at a time when unity is crucial for the Congress in Telangana.
