Muni Koti, the man who set himself on fire demanding special status to AP, succumbed to injuries on Sunday afternoon. Despite several attempts by doctors, Koti breathed his last in Chennai. He was shifted form Veluru CMC to Chennai hospital today morning in order to provide him better medical facilities. But in vain. In his suicide statement to police, Koti stated that he took this step only for the Special Status of AP.
With the help of kerosene, Koti immolated himself on Saturday during the Congress party’s Poru Sabha meeting in Tirupati which is aimed at protesting Union government’s denial to Special Status to AP. Koti had no parents. He is staying alone and had been staying away from his wife for a while.
Apparently, Koti told his close aides that he was going to do ‘something’ sensational in three days. But no one had predicted that he would take this drastic decision. Koti actively participated in the Samaikyandhra movement. With bifurcation of the state was complete and AP got raw deal, Koti said to have taken this step. Koti’s death is expected to invite flak from people and expected to trigger a movement. Thus, Koti became the first martyr of Andhra Pradesh in its movement for Special Status.
