KTR Admits Weight Gain, Targets Fitness by 50

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. T. Rama Rao seems to be drawing inspiration from Andhra Pradesh minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) general secretary Nara Lokesh, at least when it comes to fitness and projecting a fitter public image.

On Wednesday, KTR took to social media platform X to candidly admit that he had gained considerable weight in recent years and had now begun working towards getting back into shape.

“Tired of hiding my paunch. Started training again after a gap of six months. Hoping to be in better shape by July when I turn 50,” he wrote.

This is perhaps the first time the BRS leader has openly acknowledged that he had been trying to conceal his growing paunch. People close to him say KTR is known to be a foodie and enjoys good food.

Sources say that ever since the BRS lost power in Telangana, KTR appears to have had more time to indulge in food, which may have contributed to his slightly chubby appearance in recent years.

His renewed focus on fitness has naturally drawn comparisons with Nara Lokesh, who underwent a remarkable physical transformation over the past few years.

In an interview with a national television channel a few months ago, Lokesh revealed that he had lost nearly 30 kilograms by following a strict fitness routine and disciplined diet, particularly during the COVID-19 lockdown period.

During the early years of his political career, Lokesh was often ridiculed by political opponents and social media trolls for his physique and was mockingly referred to as “Pappu.”

Determined to change both his physical appearance and public image, the TDP leader adopted a disciplined lifestyle that included regular workouts and a controlled diet. Over time, he successfully shed significant weight and also gained stamina through his marathon padayatra titled Yuva Galam.

Lokesh’s transformation, along with his simpler campaign style—often seen in casual attire, stubble, and basic footwear—helped him connect better with the public.

In contrast, KTR has traditionally maintained a more polished and elite appearance, which some critics say made him appear distant from the masses.

Now, with KTR openly speaking about his fitness goals, political observers see an interesting parallel emerging between the two young leaders from the neighbouring Telugu states.
