IT minister K T Rama Rao and his bete noire TTDP working president and MLA A Revanth Reddy displayed their ‘clever poly’ while throwing political challenges against each other in the wake of GHMC elections. It all started with KTR, who offered to quit his minister post if TRS fails to win Mayor’s post in GHMC elections and challenged leaders of Opposition parties to do the same if their parties lose elections. Revanth, who accepted KTR’s challenged, has offered to quit not only his MLA post but also said he will leave Telangana State and settle somewhere else, if TRS wins 100 seats in GHMC elections.
When one goes deep into these challenges and analyse them, it becomes clear that they played a clever ploy to ensure that their posts and themselves remain safe irrespective of what would turn up in the end in GHMC election. KTR will not have to resign as it requires to win only 76 seats for TRS to bag Mayors seat. Even if it gets below this number, there is always a choice to encourage defections from other parties. There is also a chance for TRS to secure another 40 to 50 seats by giving voting rights to ex-officio members in GHMC who comprise TRS MPs, MLAs, MLCs etc, to grab Mayor’s post.
This makes it clear that TRS would bag Mayor’s seat easily and KTR would not be required to resign. When it comes to Revanth’s challenge, he said he would seek total political sanyas if TRS wins 100 seats. Out of total 150 seats in GHMC polls, there is no chance for TRS to bag 100 seats. Even if TRS bags Mayor’s seat by securing 70 to 90 seats, Revanth would not be required to resign as his challenge to TRS was to win 100 seats on its own. This shows that these challenges were only political gimmicks to grab media and public attention free of cost.
