Kubera Holds Strong in Telugu, Slips in Tamil Market

Dhanush and Sekhar Kammula have teamed up for the first time on the much-awaited film Kubera, which hit theatres last Friday. The movie enjoyed a strong opening weekend at the box office, and while trade analysts had concerns about its Monday hold, it successfully passed the first Monday test — but only in the Telugu market.

In Tamil Nadu, however, the film failed to gain momentum. Initial signs of a slowdown continued into Monday, with collections seeing a steep drop. Dhanush’s star power surprisingly couldn’t draw audiences in Tamil this time around. Sekhar Kammula’s relatively low profile in the Tamil industry, coupled with lukewarm word-of-mouth, further hampered the film’s prospects in the region.

As per trade estimates, Kubera grossed around ₹9 crore worldwide on its fourth day, pushing its total past ₹80 crore. The makers are still hopeful that the film will eventually enter the ₹100 crore club.

Also featuring Rashmika Mandanna, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Jim Sarbh, and others in pivotal roles, Kubera is jointly produced by Puskar Ram Mohan Rao and Suniel Narang.
