The sequel trend in Indian cinema is at an all-time high, with major franchises dominating the box office. Following the recent Pushpa 2 frenzy, the spotlight now shifts to another much-anticipated pan-Indian sequel—L2E: Empuraan, the follow-up to the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer.
Starring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, L2E: Empuraan is set for a grand theatrical release on March 27, 2025. Making history, the film will be the first-ever Malayalam movie to be released in IMAX, promising an unparalleled cinematic experience.
Confirming the news on X (formerly Twitter), Mohanlal, who reprises his role as Khureshi-Ab’raam, stated, “We hope this is the beginning of a long and illustrious association between IMAX and Malayalam cinema.”
Shot in an anamorphic format (1:2.8 aspect ratio), the film boasts a stellar ensemble cast including Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, and Game of Thrones actor Jerome Flynn. Backed by Lyca Productions, Aashirvad Cinemas, and Sree Gokulam Movies, L2E: Empuraan is among the most expensive Malayalam films ever produced.
Releasing in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi worldwide, the film’s IMAX debut is a testament to the massive anticipation surrounding it. With a gripping storyline and a grand visual spectacle, L2E: Empuraan is set to push the boundaries of Malayalam cinema on a global scale.
