The catastrophic Chennai floods may have devastated the city’s beauty and composure but they could not affect the spirit and harmony among the city’s people even by an inch. After several heartwarming stories about how thousands of people and even celebs turned volunteers to help fellow Chennaites, here are a couple of touching gestures by Hindus and Muslims towards each others during the Chennai floods.
As per the reports, around 50 members of a Muslim NGO named Jammat E Islami Hindi in Chennai took part in the cleaning of Hindu temples to start the daily puja and other rituals. The NGO volunteers cleaned the temples in Saidapet and Kotturpuram with the participation of several local Hindus, who were more than happy to help them.
The mutual display of communal harmony doesn’t end here as a fully pregnant Hindu lady named Chitra went into labor pains with no one to help her and her husband Mohan during the floods.
However, a Muslim man named Yunus came to their rescue and in the last minute and shifted her to a hospital where she delivered a baby girl. In a touching thanksgiving gesture, Chitra and her husband named their baby girl Yunus, after the man who helped them in such challenging conditions.
