As the promotional blitz for Coolie gains momentum ahead of its grand release on August 14, director Lokesh Kanagaraj is making headlines — not just for his film, but for his humility and gratitude.
Coolie, starring Superstar Rajinikanth, boasts an ensemble cast including Nagarjuna, Aamir Khan, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Soubin Shahir, and Shruti Haasan. The film marks Lokesh’s first standalone project in recent times, not part of his Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) — a fact that has further heightened interest around the film.
During a recent media interaction, Lokesh was asked a rather controversial question: Does he regret casting Karthi in Kaithi 2, especially after collaborating with industry titans like Vijay, Kamal Haasan, and Rajinikanth?
Lokesh responded with grace and conviction.
“When I was nobody, it was Karthi sir who believed in me and gave me a platform to prove myself. For me, he is a huge star. His faith in me helped shape my journey. I will make sure Kaithi 2 is a massive success for him.”
His statement silenced any doubts and served as a powerful testament to loyalty and gratitude in a cutthroat industry.
Released in 2019, Kaithi was Lokesh’s breakout film — a gritty, high-stakes thriller with Karthi as an ex-convict on a mission to meet his daughter. The film’s critical and commercial success paved the way for Lokesh’s rise and the formation of the blockbuster LCU.
Now, with Kaithi 2 on the way and Coolie gearing up for release, Lokesh’s grounded response is a timely reminder that true success lies not just in climbing higher, but in acknowledging those who helped you take your first step.
