War 2 Flop Forces YRF to Scrap Agent Vikram Spin-Off

The underwhelming box office performance of War 2 has sent shockwaves through Yash Raj Films (YRF), putting its ambitious Spy Universe plans in jeopardy.

The Hrithik Roshan–Jr NTR starrer, promoted as a mega event, opened to decent numbers but quickly fizzled, struggling to cross ₹300 crore worldwide.

According to Bollywood Hungama, YRF has now shelved plans for a standalone film centered on Jr NTR’s character, Agent Vikram.

“YRF had high hopes of leveraging NTR’s pan-India appeal through a spin-off. The project was in development, but War 2’s failure forced them to pause everything,” an industry insider revealed.

Sources suggest that Aditya Chopra personally decided to drop the Agent Vikram film and re-evaluate the future of the Spy Universe. Reports indicate he discussed the move directly with Jr NTR, who agreed with the decision and parted ways with the banner on amicable terms.

“Creating an Agent Vikram film is no longer viable. Adi communicated this to NTR, who accepted it positively and exited the project,” the source added.

This cancellation is notable, as the spin-off was one of the main conditions for NTR signing on to War 2.

War 2’s Struggles & YRF’s Next Steps
Despite sky-high expectations, War 2 saw a sharp decline after its opening. By Day 12, it had earned just ₹1.01 crore on the day, with India net collections totaling ₹223.01 crore. The film is expected to debut on Netflix within six to eight weeks, although no official OTT date has been confirmed.

With the Agent Vikram spin-off off the table, the pressing question now is how Aditya Chopra and YRF will recalibrate the Spy Universe following this high-profile setback.
