Madhavan’s Honest Take on Language Divides in Cinema

Share

While promoting his latest film Aap Jaisa Koi, Madhavan was asked about the rising debate on language divides in the film industry. Instead of sidestepping or offering a diplomatic answer, Madhavan spoke plainly—without drama or defensiveness.

He explained that for him, language was never a barrier. Having grown up across different parts of India, he moved comfortably between Tamil, Hindi, and Marathi, both in life and work. “Language was never a wall for me,” he said, reflecting his personal ease with multilingual experiences.

At the same time, Madhavan acknowledged the cultural significance of language. He noted that it’s natural for people to feel protective of their linguistic identity, but he also raised a valid point—why is language, which should connect people, so often used to create divisions?

Without picking sides or sounding preachy, Madhavan kept his perspective honest and lived-in. In an industry where many prefer to stay silent on sensitive topics, his grounded, straightforward response stood out. Sometimes, clarity without an agenda is the most refreshing answer.
