The prestigious Bollywood adaptation of the epic Ramayana is currently in the making under the direction of Dangal fame Nitesh Tiwari. The film has already generated massive buzz with its stellar cast — Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Rocking Star Yash taking on the role of Ravana.
Produced by Namit Malhotra on a massive budget, the project is being crafted in two parts, with Yash reportedly co-producing the film as well. The shooting for the first part has already been completed, and the recently released glimpses of the film received an overwhelming response, especially for its world-class VFX.
Interestingly, a new rumor about the casting of Ramayana is making waves on social media. Reports suggest that the filmmakers initially considered Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu for the role of Lord Rama. Director Nitesh Tiwari was apparently keen on casting Mahesh, and the actor himself was reportedly interested. However, due to his prior commitment to SS Rajamouli’s global action adventure, Mahesh had to decline the offer.
Adding another layer to the buzz, there are reports that if Mahesh had accepted the role of Rama, Bollywood’s Greek God Hrithik Roshan was ready to play Ravana. But with Mahesh opting out, Hrithik also decided against coming on board. Some speculate that Hrithik’s decision was purely professional, as he is known for taking on lead roles and may have been hesitant to play a negative character like Ravana.
Meanwhile, the makers recently explained their choice of Ranbir Kapoor for Lord Rama’s role, citing his calm demeanor and exceptional acting prowess as key reasons for his casting. The much-awaited first part of Ramayana is scheduled for a grand release during Diwali 2026.
This project, with its massive scale and high-profile cast, continues to be one of the most eagerly awaited Indian films in recent times.
