Manam Set for Japan Release on August 8

Tollywood cult classic Manam is all set for a grand theatrical release in Japan on August 8. Originally released in 2014, the film brought together three generations of the Akkineni family – ANR, Nagarjuna, and Naga Chaitanya – and became a massive success. It is also remembered as the legendary ANR’s final film.

Directed by Vikram Kumar, Manam tells a complex story in a simple and heartfelt way, which helped it resonate with audiences of all ages. Even during a recent limited re-release in Hyderabad, the film managed to pull full houses, proving the timeless love it enjoys.

The decision to release the movie in Japan is unique. While Indian films have been making their way to international markets, it’s rare for a decade-old movie to get a fresh release in a new country. The key reason behind this move is Nagarjuna’s rising popularity in Japan, especially after Brahmastra. Japanese fans affectionately call him “Nag Sama,” with “Sama” being a term of deep respect, and their admiration for him has only grown since then.

As part of the celebrations, Nagarjuna is expected to interact with Japanese fans through a live video call on the release day. After the phenomenal success of RRR, Japanese audiences are increasingly drawn to Indian films that emphasize family values and emotions, not just action and spectacle.

If Manam finds success in Japan, it could open doors for more Akkineni classics like Hello Brother, Ninne Pelladatha, and Nuvvu Vastavani to be released there. The love for “Nag Sama” in Japan seems to be growing stronger by the day.
