Tollywood actor Manchu Vishnu, who recently impressed audiences with his dream project Kannappa, seems to have even bigger ambitions in mind. After pouring years of effort into Kannappa and winning praise for his performance, Vishnu revealed that he had originally planned to make Ramayana before moving ahead with Kannappa. Even though he hasn’t officially announced any new project after Kannappa, he admitted that his focus now is completely on bringing Ramayana to life.
According to Vishnu, the script for Ramayana has been ready for years. In fact, back in 2009, he had approached Tamil superstar Suriya to play the role of Lord Rama. However, the project couldn’t materialize due to budget issues at the time. Now, he’s reportedly trying to breathe new life into that long-pending dream. He shared that his version of the story is unique — focusing on the complete journey of Ravana, from birth to death.
Vishnu also revealed an ambitious dream cast for the project: Suriya as Rama, Alia Bhatt as Sita, Nandamuri Kalyan Ram as Lakshmana, himself as Hanuman, his father Mohan Babu as Ravana, Karthi as Indrajit, and Sathyaraj as Jatayu. While he mentioned these choices casually, the scale of the names has left fans intrigued. Considering that he already managed to bring together big names like Mohanlal, Prabhas, and Akshay Kumar for Kannappa, many believe he might be capable of doing the same for Ramayana.
However, after hearing his plans, some netizens have raised questions about Suriya playing Lord Rama — particularly in terms of his height and screen presence for such a divine role. Meanwhile, in Bollywood, director Nitesh Tiwari is already filming another high-profile Ramayana, with Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi as Rama and Sita. That version is being shot in two parts, with the first slated for release in Diwali 2026 and the second in Diwali 2027.
Whether Vishnu’s version of Ramayana will become a reality or remain a cherished dream is something only time can answer. But one thing is clear — he’s thinking big, and he’s not afraid to take bold steps.
