Ameesha Patel, often associated with her affluent South Bombay roots, says her love for luxury began much before her Bollywood debut in Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai.

In a candid chat on Farah Khan’s vlog a few months ago, she revealed that she owns nearly 400 designer bags — including Hermès Birkins, Diors, and other luxury labels — worth crores. With a laugh, she admitted, “I could have bought a penthouse in Mumbai with that money.”

Speaking in a recent interview with Zoom, Ameesha explained that her collection is not about flaunting but about passion and personal choice. “You work hard and then decide where to spend your money. It’s your call,” she said, emphasizing that she doesn’t judge others’ spending habits.

Luxury, according to her, has always been a part of her life. “As a schoolgirl, my backpack was a designer bag. I traveled widely at a young age and saw my mother and aunts carry timeless, limited-edition pieces you can’t even find today,” she shared. She credits the women in her family for shaping her sense of style. “They took pride in elegance. Even my grandmother would change her saree three times a day at home.”

Ameesha further pointed out that she was ahead of her time. “I was using these brands when most people in India couldn’t even pronounce them. Some people say they had only seen such fashion in magazines. For me, it’s never about showing off — even if I don’t step out for two days, my bag has to be perfect.”

Despite her privileged upbringing, Ameesha insists that her Bollywood journey was never about wealth or glamour. “Good work should be the nucleus of your career. Everything else is secondary,” she concluded.
