Renowned filmmaker Mani Ratnam, known for collaborating mostly with senior stars, rarely works with younger actors. The last such instance was Ok Kanmani, featuring Dulquer Salmaan in the lead. Recently, social media has been buzzing with speculation that Mani Ratnam is planning a film with Naveen Polishetty and Rukmini Vasanth post the release of Thug Life. However, the director has put an end to these rumors.
In a recent interview, when asked about this project, Mani Ratnam dismissed the reports, saying, “Not at all,” adding that the news was as new to him as it was to everyone else. Addressing the online chatter, he clarified, “I have no clue what they are talking about. I’m working on a couple of scripts, but nothing is finalized yet.”
Interestingly, Mani Ratnam didn’t take long to jump into Thug Life after wrapping up the Ponniyin Selvan franchise. Whether he maintains that momentum or takes his time with the next project remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, his upcoming film Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan, Abhirami, Trisha, and Silambarasan (Simbhu), is slated for release on June 5th, 2025.
