Some films may falter in theatres but find their true audience on OTT, and Mazaka is a perfect example. Despite aggressive promotions, Sundeep Kishan’s comedy-drama, co-starring Ritu Varma, Rao Ramesh, and marking Anshu’s comeback, failed to make an impact at the box office. However, what seemed like a setback on the big screen turned into a roaring success on streaming. While theatres couldn’t fully embrace its humor and emotions, Zee5 audiences welcomed it with enthusiasm.
Released on Ugadi, Mazaka quickly gained momentum, amassing over 100 million streaming minutes on Zee5, making it one of the platform’s top trending films. Directed by Trinadha Rao Nakkina, the movie blends humor, heartwarming family emotions, and a touching father-son dynamic. The chemistry between Sundeep Kishan and Rao Ramesh has emerged as the film’s standout element, striking an emotional chord with viewers.
Reacting to this unexpected success, Lloyd Xavier, Vice President of SVOD South at ZEE5, shared his excitement:
“Mazaka is making waves in regional cinema on Zee5. The overwhelming response has set a new benchmark for Telugu OTT content. The father-son duo of Rao Ramesh and Sundeep Kishan has truly resonated with audiences, reaffirming our commitment to high-quality entertainment.”
At a time when theatrical success is no longer the sole metric for a film’s impact, Mazaka proves that good stories always find their audience. Though it stumbled at the box office, it has flourished in the digital world, proving that in the OTT era, some films don’t fail—they just take a different route to success!
