Kantara: Chapter 1, slated to release on October 2nd, is already generating tremendous excitement in trade circles. Backed by Hombale Films and directed by Rishab Shetty, the prequel is mounted on a massive scale with a production budget reportedly soaring to ₹200 crores—a huge leap from the first part, which was made on just ₹16 crores.

From the making videos and glimpses revealed so far, the grandeur and scale of the film are evident, raising expectations sky-high. The buzz in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is particularly strong, with reports suggesting that the film is eyeing a business of ₹100+ crores from the Telugu states alone.

Trade reports indicate staggering numbers: Nizam rights at around ₹40 crores, Andhra close to ₹45 crores, and Ceded approximately ₹15 crores—figures usually seen only for top-tier Tollywood stars. For the film to achieve breakeven, it would need to collect at least ₹170 crores gross from Telugu states, which will be possible only with extraordinary word of mouth.

Adding to the challenge, Kantara: Chapter 1 releases just a week after Pawan Kalyan’s OG, which is already carrying massive expectations. If OG strikes big, it could dominate the box office for weeks, leaving Kantara to rely heavily on strong content and audience reception to sustain.

Featuring Rukmini Vasanth as the female lead, the film explores the events that unfolded before the story of the first installment. With its blend of devotion, folklore, and thriller elements coupled with lavish production values, Kantara: Chapter 1 is one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Whether it can live up to the monumental hype and deliver king-size numbers in Telugu states will be known once it hits the screens this October.
