Meta CEO Warns of More Layoffs, Raises Performance Standards

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly issued an internal memo to employees, warning of a challenging year ahead with further layoffs on the horizon.

In the memo, Zuckerberg emphasized plans to raise performance standards, stating, “I’ve decided to increase the bar on performance management and move out low performers faster.” While the exact number of job cuts remains unspecified, managers were informed that over 5% of the workforce would be impacted, starting February 10.

Meta previously laid off 21,000 employees between 2022 and 2023, with the most recent cuts occurring in October.

Zuckerberg clarified that not all employees who fell short of expectations would be let go if there was confidence in their future performance. He added, “For those we do let go, we’ll provide generous severance packages consistent with previous layoffs. Impacted employees will be notified on February 10 or later for those outside the U.S.”

The memo concluded with Zuckerberg expressing the difficulty of making such decisions but reaffirming his belief that the move would strengthen the company’s teams and support the development of cutting-edge technologies for the future of human connection.
