This might sound weird, unprecedented. But Telangana’s Excise Minister T. Padma Rao has set a new precedent by sitting in a press conference with liquor bottles. Claiming that the government is trying to “save” people form consuming illicit-distilled liquor (Gudumba), he stated that Telnagana government is introducing cheap alcohol from October 1.

Strongly retaliating Opposition party’s attack, Padma Rao said, “Government’s objective is to save people from not falling to the trap of llicit-distilled liquor. Hence we’re launching cheap alcohol from Oct 1.” This is not all. The minister has hold liquor bottles and displayed them by making his point that the cheap liqour brands were not new and the TS government was only trying to “reduce their prices” by cutting taxes raised many eyebrows.

Minister’s act of sitting in press conference with liquor bottles on Monday in Secretariat is inviting flak from several sections. Many are pointing out that how minister himself could provoke people to consume alcohol and how could he carry liquor bottles in Secretariat. One is wondering whether it’s Gandhi Jayanti (Oct 2) offer by Telangana government?
