“Mirai” Shines Overall but Struggles in Hindi Market

Share

Teja Sajja’s latest film, Mirai, has emerged as a super hit overall, yet it fell short of achieving pan-Indian success. Unlike his previous project, HanuMan, which performed strongly in the Hindi belt, Mirai struggled to capture the Hindi audience’s attention.

The actor had high hopes for the Hindi market, considering its critical importance for pan-Indian films. With expectations of strong numbers, the film’s Hindi distribution rights were handed to Karan Johar on a commission basis. However, Mirai barely made an impact, collecting less than ₹15 crore in Hindi—a fraction of its ₹150 crore worldwide gross.

This underperformance prompted the production house to fast-track the film’s OTT release. Mirai will begin streaming on JioHotstar in September, just 28 days after its theatrical debut.

The film’s journey underscores the ongoing challenge of cracking the Hindi market, even for actors who have delivered prior hits.
