However, a major controversy has overshadowed the pageant following the withdrawal of Miss England, Milla Magee, making her the first reigning titleholder to pull out in the competition’s 74-year history. The 24-year-old lifeguard from Newquay, Cornwall, cited feelings of exploitation and moral conflict as the primary reasons behind her abrupt decision.
Magee opened up about her experience in Hyderabad, revealing that she felt objectified and pressured to entertain wealthy male sponsors. She likened the situation to feeling “like a prostitute,” expressing deep discomfort with the treatment she and other contestants received. Despite the pageant’s motto of “beauty with a purpose,” Magee criticized it as outdated and overly focused on appearance rather than meaningful substance.
Reports suggest contestants were required to wear makeup and ball gowns at all times, even during breakfast, and were often seated with male sponsors at evening events, reinforcing a culture that Magee found troubling.
Initially, her exit was attributed to “personal reasons,” but in an exclusive interview, she shed light on the superficial treatment and lack of respect towards contestants, sparking widespread discussion on social media.
