India had won both the Miss Universe and Miss World crowns in year 1994 and 2000, making every Indian proud. Relying on sentiments, India hoped to once again repeat the double magic by winning the Miss Universe 2017 title after Manushi Chhillar had won the crown at the recently held Miss world 2017 pageant.
Unfortunately, Shraddha Shashidhar, who was representing India in this year’s Miss Universe contest, couldn’t win the title. A top model and the winner of Miss Diva 2017 crown, Shraddha could not make it to even the final 10 contestants at the beauty pageant held in Las Vegas.
Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters was crowned Miss Universe 2017. The second runner-up was Miss Jamaica and the first runner-up was Miss Colombia. As many as 92 women from around the world competed at the Miss Universe 2017 pageant.
For the record, India has so far won the Miss Universe title only twice – Sushmita Sen in 1994 (Aishwarya Rai won Miss World title the same year) and Lara Dutta in 2000 (Priyanka Chopra won the Miss World title the same year).
