The proposed Mission Kakatiya programme of the Telangana government aimed at restoring more than 20,000 minor irrigation tanks, smacks of a major scam on the lines of Jalayagnam taken up during YS Rajasekhar Reddy regime which was misused for swindling funds.
There is a suspicion that the scheme would only help local TRS leaders to make big money by grabbing contracts in the name of restoring tanks. “No works are being taken up, but monies are already being distributed to contracts in the name of mobilisation advances,” Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy alleged.
He also alleged that arrack and sand mafia leaders were making inroads into ruling TRS party, and some members of the State cabinet and MLAs have nexus with this mafia.
