Following the success of its retro-inspired Razr clamshell lineup, Motorola is preparing to enter the large-format foldable smartphone segment with its first notebook-style device, the Razr Fold. The handset was officially teased at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, marking a strategic shift for the brand toward premium productivity-focused foldables.

Designed to balance portability and performance, the Razr Fold features a 6.6-inch cover display when closed, allowing for standard smartphone usage. When unfolded, the device transforms into an 8.1-inch 2K internal display, offering a tablet-like viewing experience aimed at multitasking and media consumption.

Motorola has confirmed two Pantone-certified colour options—Lily White, which sports a smooth finish, and Blackened Blue, featuring a textured rear panel. The design emphasizes comfort and grip, addressing ergonomic challenges often associated with larger foldables.

Imaging appears to be a major highlight. The Razr Fold will feature a triple rear camera system, led by a 50MP Sony LYTIA primary sensor, accompanied by a 50MP ultra-wide camera and a 50MP telephoto lens with 3X periscope zoom. For selfies and video calls, the phone includes a 32MP camera on the cover screen and a 20MP camera on the inner display.

While Motorola has yet to reveal details regarding the processor, battery capacity, and pricing, the device is expected to target the premium segment. The company has confirmed that the Razr Fold will be “AI ready,” suggesting deeper integration with Gemini AI and Moto AI features.

The teaser aligns with Motorola’s broader push into high-end devices, coinciding with the launch of its new Signature series powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. With the Razr Fold, Motorola is positioning itself as a direct competitor to established foldable leaders such as Samsung and Google, signaling an ambitious expansion beyond its traditional clamshell identity.
