In stark example of taking the law into their own hands, a Shiv Sena MP from Maharastra slapped Air India Official when he was not allowed to travel in business class though he had purchased the ticket. He was forced to sit in economy class.
The incident was happened when flight AI852 from Pune landed at New Delhi airport in the morning Thursday.
Anger over ill treatment, Gaikwad – who represents Osmanabad (Maharashtra) in Lok Sabha – refused to get off the flight and caused inconvenience to other passengers and crew on board. When the air India staff requested to deboard, the MP flared up and assaulted them with his slipper.
The authorities maintained that the flight was operated by an old ATR aircraft which has only economy class configuration. So he could not have been allotted a business class seat. The Air India constituted panel to probe into incident.
