The political crisis in Madhya Pradesh has further deepened. Right after Jyotiraditya Scindia resigning, 19 MLAs including six ministers too have resigned and forwarded their letters to Assembly speaker. This brings down the Congress count in the MP assembly to 95.
Congress had won 114 seats in the last elections and with the help of Samajwadi, Bahujan Samaj Party and independents, the party formed government in 2018. BJP has won 109 seats in the last elections and was confined to the opposition.
With the latest development, Congress will have to prove the majority in the assembly. BJP is planning to place the no confidence motion in the budget sessions which are due to start from March 16th. Excluding the resigned MLAs, the MP assembly would be 211 and the magic figure to claim government is 107. BJP has the number and will comfortably pass the test.
There are also reports that BJP is considering Dr. Narottam Mishra for the chief minister post instead of Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
