After her impactful rise post-Super 30, many expected Mrunal Thakur to become the next big name in Indian cinema. While she has garnered a strong following in the South, particularly in Telugu cinema, her journey in Bollywood has been far less rewarding.
Mrunal made a strong debut in mainstream Hindi cinema with Super 30 opposite Hrithik Roshan in 2019. However, she has struggled to deliver a major hit since then. Films like Batla House, Toofaan, Selfiee, Gumraah, Aankh Micholi, Pippa, and now Son of Sardaar 2 have failed to strike a chord either critically or commercially.
The recently released SOS 2 has only added to her woes. Despite promotions and 50% ticket discounts, the film opened to a dull response, lacking both buzz and audience pull. Mrunal’s character too didn’t leave much impact, further disappointing her fans.
Even in Telugu cinema, her recent misstep with Family Star affected her momentum. However, there’s renewed hope with her upcoming film Dacoit, in which she stars alongside Adivi Sesh. The project is expected to be a potential game-changer for her, given Sesh’s knack for picking strong, content-driven films.
Adding to the buzz, industry insiders suggest that Mrunal may soon team up with Allu Arjun in a high-profile film directed by Atlee. If confirmed, this could mark a significant turnaround in her pan-India appeal and help re-establish her across both Hindi and South markets.
All eyes are now on how Dacoit and the Atlee project shape Mrunal Thakur’s next chapter.
