Mrunal Thakur Replaces Shruti Haasan in Dacoit

Actors Adivi Sesh and Shruti Haasan grabbed headlines last November when they were spotted together at a 50 Cent concert in Mumbai. Shortly after, they announced their collaboration on a rustic action drama titled Dacoit, sparking much excitement among fans. However, in May this year, reports surfaced that Shruti had exited the project due to creative differences. Soon after, Mrunal Thakur was confirmed as her replacement.

In a recent podcast, Adivi Sesh opened up about the change and clarified that there was no dramatic fallout behind Shruti’s departure. “It just didn’t work out,” he stated. “There were different working styles, and she’s also quite busy with her other project, Coolie. It was all very amicable and respectful. I take a lot of time to make a film, and not everyone is on board with that process. That’s really all there is to it.”

Speaking about Mrunal Thakur, Sesh expressed his admiration for her craft, especially after seeing her performance in Sita Ramam. He was pleasantly surprised when she agreed to come on board Dacoit within hours of hearing the narration—unlike many actors who often take weeks to decide. Sesh also appreciated her humility, sharing that Mrunal was touched by the fact that her name was given first and given due prominence in the official announcement video, which, he noted, is not common in the industry.

Reiterating the importance of her role, Sesh described Dacoit as a “two-hero film,” emphasizing that Mrunal’s character carries equal narrative weight. With this fresh casting and a promising script, Dacoit continues to be one of the most anticipated projects on Adivi Sesh’s slate.
