If media reports are to be believed, cricketing legend and former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is set to visit Andhra Pradesh’s capital, Amaravati, on January 9th for a two-day trip. Sources suggest that Dhoni is likely to meet Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for a crucial discussion.
The talks are expected to focus on setting up an international cricket academy in Amaravati, in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh government, aimed at nurturing talented and enthusiastic cricketers in the coming years. This meeting could mark the first step toward realizing the initiative.
In addition to the academy, Dhoni and Chandrababu are likely to discuss the international cricket stadium planned for Amaravati, a project proposed by the NDA-led coalition government after coming to power in 2024. Reports also indicate that Chandrababu may seek Dhoni’s consent to appoint him as one of Andhra Pradesh’s brand ambassadors.
During his brief tour, Dhoni is expected to visit iconic tourist spots around the capital, with the state government making all necessary arrangements for the high-profile visit.
Dhoni, one of India’s biggest cricketing superstars, led the national team to memorable victories in the 2007 T20 and 2011 ODI World Cups. His association with the proposed cricket academy, backed by the Andhra Pradesh government, is likely to have a significant impact in identifying and nurturing talented youngsters who could shine at both national and international levels.
