The majority of Indian parents are usually conservative/orthodox in their outlook. They also have a certain prefixed notion of how Indian culture is, especially when it comes to a girl’s clothing. But, many of us fail to fathom that Indian culture is defined by its tolerance, spirituality, and accommodative ways, having much more to it than the choice of clothes. With mammoth tenets of conservatism in an Indian context, they are not only vague but also reserved in its behavior such as abstinence from alcohol, music, movies, and clothing.
But, parents of actress Rakul Preet Singh are setting a perfect example by showing its contrasts. The actress revealed that her parents are inclined and are open to modern sensibilities. As we know, Rakul has often reiterated that her mother is her backbone in many aspects. Rakul’s mother Kulwinder Singh, has shown the path to her daughter in participating Miss India pagent and to foray into the film industry. As a part of Mother’s Day (10 May) interview, Rakul and her mother shared some intriguing facts about their lives.
“I only prepared Rakul for Miss India. I wanted her to take part in the competition,” Kulwidner Singh says. However, Rakul’s mother always believed in the capability of her daughter into becoming an ace heroine one day. “I told her about acting auditions and she initially was telling me, ‘Aise kaise?’ I knew she can do it. Then I molded her,” says Rakul’s mother.
Rakul said that she explained her mother she needs to wear a bikini for Miss India. “I said I’m not prepared for that. But she was confident. She said, ‘You’ll prepare for it, isme kya hai?’”. To much surprise, her mother also took Rakul for bikini shopping for Miss India. “You won’t believe but I must add this because so many kids don’t get their parents’ support. But my mom and my dad were more comfortable than I was with the idea of wearing a bikini. In fact, when we were going to shop for the bikinis, my dad kept telling us to buy vibrant colored bikinis and not the dull ones.”
Kulwinder Singh is eminently known as one of the independent and strongest ladies in her community as she took care of her kids alone when her husband (Rakul’s father, now retired) used to serve in the army. It is said that she also left her job because of Rakul and her brother Aman’s educational and husband’s frequent transfers. Rakul added that her mother also has no problem in discussing about her love life, marriage, and boys. With this, you all must be definitely thinking that Kulwinder is indeed an ideal mother, who has raised her kids right!
