Nag Ashwin urges GST cut on Rs. 250 movie tickets

Director Nag Ashwin has sparked widespread discussion by voicing his opinion on movie ticket taxation in India. Recently, the government reduced GST on tickets priced up to Rs. 100 from 12% to 5% for single-screen theaters. However, Nag Ashwin suggested that the benefit should be extended to tickets priced up to Rs. 250, emphasizing that this change would benefit a larger audience and support more theaters.

He highlighted that very few theaters sell tickets for Rs. 100, with most audiences attending cinemas where tickets are priced around Rs. 250. Extending the GST reduction to this range, he noted, would make movie-going more affordable for the middle class and help the film industry thrive.

Nag Ashwin’s remarks quickly went viral on social media, with many applauding his practical approach and concern for regular moviegoers. Currently engaged with his upcoming project Kalki-2, his suggestion underscores his commitment to both the audience and the industry. Fans and cinema enthusiasts now await the government’s response to this proposal, which could potentially benefit moviegoers nationwide.
