The Telugu film industry has seen a wave of acclaimed biopics, from Kathanayakudu on NTR to Mahanati, the celebrated portrayal of legendary actress Savitri. Now, in an interesting twist, renowned director Nag Ashwin might become the inspiration for an upcoming film.
Producer Naga Vamsi recently disclosed that his next project—starring Vishwak Sen and directed by KV Anudeep—could be seen as a biopic of Nag Ashwin. The film, titled Funky, weaves a narrative about a filmmaker who falls in love with and marries a producer’s daughter—a storyline that strikingly mirrors Nag Ashwin’s real-life journey. Early in his career, Ashwin met Priyanka Dutt, daughter of producer Ashwini Dutt, and their relationship eventually blossomed into marriage.
While Funky is not an official biopic, its plot artfully blends reality with fiction, sparking significant curiosity in the industry. KV Anudeep, who shares a strong rapport with Nag Ashwin from their collaboration on Jathi Ratnalu, is set to helm this project that promises to explore the intricate dynamics between love and the creative process in cinema.
As anticipation builds, Funky is poised to become one of the most talked-about films in the coming months, offering a fresh perspective on the life and times of one of Telugu cinema’s most innovative directors.
