One of the biggest concerns in the Telugu film industry today is the declining theatre audience, especially families. While directors and producers have voiced various reasons behind this trend, a key factor often cited is the skyrocketing prices of Food and Beverages (F&B) at multiplexes. Producer Naga Vamsi has now openly expressed his frustration over this issue.
Currently promoting his upcoming film Kingdom, slated for release on July 31st, Naga Vamsi shared a personal experience during a recent interview. He revealed that a simple snack of 2 popcorns and 2 soft drinks cost him over ₹1200 at a multiplex. “Even for me, it feels too expensive,” he admitted, highlighting that these prices are becoming a barrier for family audiences who might otherwise prefer to visit theatres.
Vamsi further pointed out that while requests can be made to some local multiplexes, national chains are unlikely to revise their rates without government intervention. “Only the government can step in to regulate these prices,” he stated.
With ticket prices averaging around ₹200 per person, adding F&B costs makes a movie outing unaffordable for many families. This economic burden is pushing audiences towards OTT platforms, where they can comfortably watch new films at home without the extra expenses.
When a leading producer like Naga Vamsi acknowledges the gravity of this issue, it clearly underlines the need for regulatory action to revive the theatre-going culture, especially among families.
