King Nagarjuna is not just a celebrated actor but also a successful producer. Under his Annapurna Studios banner, many films have not only entertained but also struck a chord with the audience. Known for his sharp producer instincts, Nagarjuna recently shared an interesting incident during the Telugu press meet of Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Coolie.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the final schedule of Coolie was wrapped up in Bangkok. Nagarjuna revealed that Lokesh personally met him after the shoot and surprised him by saying that he managed to save ₹5 crore from the allocated budget. Although Sun Pictures was willing to increase the budget by ₹15 crore, Lokesh completed the film under budget—something that impressed Nagarjuna deeply.
Praising Lokesh further, Nagarjuna mentioned that he is a big fan of Kaithi and Vikram. He even recalled asking Rajinikanth if he immediately accepted the project after hearing the story. Interestingly, for the first time in his career, Nagarjuna recorded the narration of a film’s script because he was so impressed.
Nagarjuna, who plays the antagonist Simon in Coolie, reflected on his passion for experimenting with unique roles throughout his career. He said that even when people discouraged him from doing offbeat films like Annamayya after Ninne Pelladatha, he followed his instinct and chose different paths.
In Coolie, alongside Rajinikanth and Nagarjuna, the film also features Kannada superstar Upendra and Bollywood’s perfectionist Aamir Khan. Despite such a massive star cast, Lokesh managed to deliver the film within budget—earning admiration from the industry. Anirudh’s music for the film has also generated tremendous buzz.
Interestingly, Nagarjuna shared that on the second day of shooting, Rajinikanth jokingly told him, “If I had known you’d look this intimidating in the role, I wouldn’t have agreed to do the film!” While Rajinikanth couldn’t attend the press event, he sent a heartfelt video message requesting Telugu audiences to support Coolie, which marks his Golden Jubilee year in cinema.
Coolie is slated to release on August 14, the same day as War 2, starring Jr. NTR and Hrithik Roshan—making it one of the biggest box office clashes of the year.
