Nagarjuna Expands Annapurna Studios Into Distribution

Veteran star and producer Nagarjuna Akkineni has formally stepped into film distribution across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, with ambitious plans to scale up operations in the coming years. According to industry sources, Annapurna Studios has already established a distribution office in Hyderabad and is now gearing up to open another in Visakhapatnam, signaling a major expansion across both Telugu states.

“Nagarjuna runs a production house that is over five decades old and is now looking to increase film output while simultaneously strengthening the distribution network,” a source reveals. The actor-producer is said to be financially strong and well-equipped to take on established distributors, potentially reshaping the competitive landscape.

The distribution market in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana is already undergoing significant changes. Leading banners such as Mythri Movie Makers and Sithara Entertainments have formed powerful syndicates, making the business increasingly competitive. Trade observers believe the fight for distribution supremacy is only set to intensify in the coming years.

At present, Dil Raju continues to be a dominant force in the Nizam and Vizag regions. After Mythri Movie Makers made a strong entry into distribution, many producers began aligning themselves with Mythri Film Distributors, particularly in the Nizam belt. Meanwhile, seasoned players like Asian Suniel and Suresh Babu continue to handle distribution for select projects.

Dil Raju has been consistently distributing films produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi of Sithara Entertainments. However, in a potentially game-changing development, Naga Vamsi is reportedly considering a partnership with Annapurna Studios, which has recently launched its distribution office in the Nizam region. Given Naga Vamsi’s packed release calendar and his reputation as one of the most successful producers in Telugu cinema, such a move could significantly dent Dil Raju’s long-standing dominance in the territory—despite the close relationship they share.

Industry insiders suggest that the growing trend of producers turning distributors is set to challenge established heavyweights like Suresh Babu, Allu Aravind, Sunil Narang, and others. If this momentum continues, the Telugu film distribution business could soon witness a major reshuffle, ushering in a new era of competition and consolidation.
